Chiesi Group’s near and long-term science-based emissions reduction targets have been validated by the SBTi
In a significant advancement in its commitment to combating climate change and promoting sustainability, Chiesi Group is proud to announce that the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) has validated its near- and long-term science-based emissions reduction targets, establishing a net-zero goal by 2035.
Specifically, Chiesi Group has committed to achieving the following targets:
- a 90% reduction in absolute Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2030, using 2019 as the baseline year.
- a 90% reduction in absolute Scope 3 GHG emissions from purchased goods and services, business travel, and the use of sold products by 2035, also based on 2019 levels.
This accomplishment positions Chiesi among the most ambitious companies in the pharmaceutical industry regarding sustainability commitments. By setting a net-zero target that is 15 years ahead of the European Union's 2050 target, Chiesi demonstrates a proactive approach to addressing the challenges posed by climate change.
The SBTi plays a crucial role in assisting companies in establishing GHG emissions reduction targets grounded in scientific evidence, vital for limiting global warming to levels that avert catastrophic impacts. Chiesi Group is committed to conducting regular updates to ensure that its targets remain aligned with the latest scientific advancements and adhere to the SBTi’s rigorous guidelines.
